Personal Package Archive is a collection of software not included in Ubuntu repositories by default. Typically these repositories focus on a single program, but they can include more depending on the person maintaining them. With PPAs, Ubuntu users can have access to bleeding-edge software without waiting for the next official release if ever the PPA made it to the official repository.

Here are my top PPAs...

Kodi

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install kodi

Ruby

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:brightbox/ruby-ng
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install ruby2.2

PHP

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php5
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install php5 php5-mysql

Ubuntu numix

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:numix/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install numix-gtk-theme numix-icon-theme-circle
$ sudo apt-get install apt-get install numix-wallpaper-*

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mpstark/elementary-tweaks-daily
